Bio: Dr. Roger Godschalk is Associate Professor of genetic toxicology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, where he currently serves as the chair of the department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. He obtained his PhD in 1999 on the validation of biomarkers for exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Between 1999 and 2002, he worked at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, Germany. During this period, he worked on methods to detect low levels of DNA damage that were induced by endogenous or exogenous compounds. In 2002, he returned to Maastricht University at the dept of Pharmacology & Toxicology. His current research focuses on the consequences of DNA damage, particularly on individual susceptibility to carcinogens and the application of biomarkers in cancer risk assessment.
