Bio: Dr. Hsuna-Yu Chen received the Ph.D. in the Graduate Institute of Epidemiology, National Taiwan University (2003-2007). He is a faculty member of Institute of Statistical Science, Academia Sinica (Taiwan, China) since 2008 and is current Research Fellow/Professor. He is also a President of Taiwan Society of Precision Health and Toxicogenomics. His works are to reveal the important patterns from the big and complex molecular data. His team addressed several critical problems of the precision medicine including prediction models for lung cancer prognosis, risk allele identification, germline risk of the early onset Alzheimer’s disease, environmental carcinogens induced genome editing, and personal neoantigen anticancer vaccine etc. He has published 143 papers, and some were on high impact journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Cell, and Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Abstract: High throughput sequencing methods enable us to determine the changes/variations in different molecular levels such as genome, transcriptome, epigenome etc. It is a very powerful tool in the precision medicine era. Our core competency is based on the concepts and analytical methods of the data science to reveal the important patterns from the big and complex molecular data. Several critical problems are addressed in our works in past years. We reported the first evidence of associations between exogenous-exposome (environmental carcinogens) and tumorigenesis in never-smoking lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). The endogenous-exposome named APOBEC was obtained in the early onset non-smoking female LUAD and showed higher response to the immuno-therapies. Finally, genomic Impact of environmental carcinogens between ethnics will also be addressed in this talk.
